In the September/October Benwick Bugle, we brought readers an exclusive interview with Bharat Sisodiya who has received planning permission for a new Benwick Shop. As of October, Bharat is still waiting for the go ahead from Fenland DC to be able to commence works as highways negotiations related to parking are causing delays.
Planning permission has been granted for a new village shop, on the corner of Lilyholt Road and the High Street. Bharat Sisodiya, who runs the shop in Manea spoke to The Benwick Bugle about his plans for a new shop.
“I want to open a shop in Benwick because I like small villages and the village way of life as people are always friendly and have a very close community.” Bharat said. Benwick is also not too far from Manea for me to run the two businesses.”
The shop, which Bharat hopes will open early next year, will be the first village shop since the old shop and post office closed in August 2007. The building will include two small flats, and work is hoped to start by the end of September. Like his Manea store, Bharat has indicated the shop will be a Londis.
“The store will be a convenience shop and sell a range of everyday shopping including fresh fruit and veg, frozen food, greeting cards, newspapers, off licence alcohol, medicines and national lottery too” Bharat continued.
“It will also include a Pay Point where villagers will be able to pay bills, and we are looking into the Post Office after we open – but I cannot promise if I will get permission for this.”
The Bugle will keep you updated as the village gets closer to once again having a village store.
